At Westwood Academy, equality, inclusion and respect are at the heart of who we are.
We are a nurturing school where every young person is welcomed, valued and supported to achieve their best. We recognise that every pupil brings their own identity, experiences, strengths and needs, and we believe that diversity makes our school community stronger.
Our aim is simple: every pupil should feel safe, respected and able to belong.
Our commitment
We are committed to creating an environment where pupils, families, staff and visitors are treated with fairness, dignity and respect.
We do this by:

How we promote equality and inclusion
Equality and inclusion are woven through life at Westwood Academy.
Through our curriculum, PSHE, SEAL, Citizenship and everyday school life, pupils learn about equality, identity, respect and the importance of treating others fairly.
Learning is always planned in an age-appropriate way and is adapted to meet the needs of our pupils.
Through learning
Pupils explore diverse voices, cultures, histories, communities and role models across the curriculum. They are encouraged to think critically, listen to different perspectives and understand the world beyond their own experiences.
Through relationships
Our nurturing and restorative approach helps pupils understand the impact of their choices, repair relationships and develop empathy for others.
Through safety and belonging
Strong safeguarding and anti-bullying procedures help pupils feel safe to be themselves. We take concerns seriously and work closely with pupils, families and external partners where support is needed.
Through celebration
We recognise and celebrate cultural, social and community events throughout the year. These opportunities build pride, understanding and a stronger sense of belonging.
Why it matters
For some pupils, Westwood Academy may be the first place where they have felt fully understood, accepted or successful in education.
An inclusive environment helps pupils develop confidence, resilience and self-belief. It also helps them build the empathy, respect and social responsibility needed to take their place in a diverse, modern society.
