Key Stage 3
Key Stage 3 at Westwood Academy gives pupils the time, support and challenge they need to rebuild confidence in learning.
Many pupils join us with gaps in knowledge, disrupted experiences of education or a reduced belief in their own ability. Our Key Stage 3 curriculum helps pupils re-engage with school, develop positive learning habits and recognise their own strengths.
Pupils access a broad range of subjects, including English, maths, science, humanities, art, PSHE, SEAL, Citizenship, Life Skills, Food Studies and Digital Studies.

Learning in small, achievable stepss
Teaching is carefully planned to help pupils build knowledge over time. Staff identify individual starting points and adapt learning so that it is accessible, purposeful and appropriately challenging.
Lessons use clear routines, explicit teaching, practical activities and regular opportunities to revisit learning. This helps pupils strengthen literacy, numeracy, vocabulary, communication and subject knowledge.
Developing confidence and independence
Key Stage 3 is not only about academic progress. Pupils also develop emotional literacy, resilience, communication and positive relationships.
Through personal development, practical learning and enrichment opportunities, pupils learn to manage challenges, make informed choices and become more independent.
Our aim is for every pupil to leave Key Stage 3 with stronger foundations in learning, greater confidence in themselves and the skills needed to move successfully into Key Stage 4.
