Understanding Every Pupil
When pupils join Westwood Academy, we carry out a range of baseline assessments to build a clear picture of their strengths, needs and starting points. Alongside academic assessments, pupils complete CAT4 (Cognitive Abilities Test) assessments, which provide valuable information about learning potential, thinking skills and preferred learning styles.
This enables staff to plan learning that is appropriately challenging, accessible and tailored to each pupil’s individual needs from the very beginning.
A Graduated Approach to Support
Assessment is an ongoing part of school life. We regularly monitor progress, review individual targets and evaluate the impact of interventions to ensure that support remains effective and responsive.
Our graduated approach means that provision is continually adapted as pupils develop, ensuring that every young person receives the right support at the right time.
Working Together
Supporting pupils extends beyond the classroom. We work closely with parents, carers and a wide range of specialist professionals to ensure that every pupil benefits from coordinated and personalised support.
