Building confidence through practical learning

Food Studies

Food Studies gives pupils the practical skills, confidence and independence to make healthy, safe and informed choices throughout life.

Through hands-on learning, pupils develop their understanding of food, nutrition and healthy lifestyles while building confidence in the kitchen. They learn that cooking can be creative, enjoyable and an important part of independent living.

Lessons are carefully structured so pupils can develop skills step by step, experience success and take pride in what they create.

Working together

Food Studies also helps pupils develop communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Pupils work alongside others to prepare, share and evaluate food. They learn to plan ahead, manage time, respond to challenges and reflect on how they can improve.

Preparing for life beyond Westwood

The skills developed through Food Studies support pupils well beyond the classroom.

By learning to cook, budget, make healthy choices and manage practical tasks, pupils become more confident and prepared for adult life. Food Studies also supports future pathways in further education, training, hospitality and employment.
